New head office for EMA delivered
The new head office for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) was officially delivered last Friday. Minister Bruno Bruins (Medical Care and Sport) complimented all parties involved with this special achievement.
Two years ago, the member states of the European Union announced that the EMA would move to the Netherlands - to be precise, to Zuidas. The building was built in 18 months, an unprecedented pace. The official start of construction was at the end of May last year. Less than four months later, construction already reached the highest point. This extreme effort was needed to disrupt the important work of the EMA as little as possible. The EMA is responsible for the quality and safety of new medicines for people and animals that are allowed on the European market. Minister Bruins (Medical Care and Sport) calls it 'a wonderful and important result that the EMA will be able to move into the new head office according to agreement. In the interest of the patients in Europe, the EMA must always be able to continue its important work undisturbed as much as possible.' Bruins expressed his pride in the cooperation between the various ministries, the municipality of Amsterdam, the EMA Building Combination (Dura Vermeer / Heijmans) and the EMA.
