Breikers networking event at Capital C a great success

On 13 February, Breikers held its fourth annual networking event, this time hosted in the Skyscape room of the former Capital C Diamond Exchange on Weesperplein in Amsterdam. “We always look for a special location and an inspiring speaker, and this year we succeeded very well”, said Breikers director Rein Aarts This year’s guest speaker was philosopher Bas Haring, who offered an alternative take on mobility.

Rein Aarts was especially pleased with the list of participants. “At an event like this we can bring people together who would never meet otherwise, and that leads to new connections. That’s what matters.”

With 100 people in attendance, interest was high and the audience listened attentively to Bas Haring’s talk. Among other things, he put the problem of traffic jams into perspective: if they were really that awful, we wouldn’t all be stuck in them. Bas ended his talk by warning that the advent of artificial intelligence will likely only heighten the pressure on mobility, because while computers can do our thinking for us, they can’t replace human physical contact.

The inspiring session was capped by drinks in the lovely Capital C restaurant, where everyone gathered for a chance to network. Breikers board member Robert Jan Ter Kuile, who was attending the event for the first time, was delighted at the turnout. He was also fascinated by Bas Haring’s talk. “It’s always good to stop and think about why you do the things you do and to put them into perspective.’ In short, this year’s Breikers event was another great success.
