Horror Friday: big delays on Amsterdam access roads
Currently there is a one-hour delay on the access roads to Amsterdam. Especially on the A4 at Badhoevedorp and on the A9. It is also very busy in the city centre. Do not use the car if possible or check Google Maps before departure.
As from 22.00 on Thursday evening 31 October the A10 South will be closed on the south side until 05:00 on Monday morning 4 November. Coming from the A10 West, the A10 South will be closed off from De Nieuwe Meer junction in the direction of the A2 and A10 East (Amstel junction). Coming from the A4/Schiphol the motorways (A4 and A10 South) will be closed off from the Badhoevedorp junction onwards. Traffic will be diverted via the A5 and A9. The S109 slip road in the direction of Amstel junction will remain in use, as will the A10 South and the A4 in the direction of Schiphol.
Rail traffic
Friday 1 November and Saturday 2 November it will not be possible to travel by train from, to and via Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam RAI stations. Passengers will be diverted via Amsterdam Centraal and can then travel to Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam RAI stations using the metro. Limited train traffic is possible from, to and via Amsterdam Zuid station and RAI on Sunday 3 November. The NS recommends that passengers consult the NS travel planner before they leave and allow extra time for their journey.
Station passageway
The weekend work is necessary in order to enlarge Amsterdam Zuid station as part of the Zuidasdok project. Although this project is delayed, the commissioning parties (national government, the municipality of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Regional Transport Authority [Vervoerregio Amsterdam] and the provincial government of Noord-Holland) are continuing with the renovation of Amsterdam Zuid station. The installation of the concrete deck of the extra station passageway, that was originally planned to take place during the three-day Whitsun weekend in June this year, is a crucial step in the process of increasing capacity at the busy Amsterdam Zuid station.
